Buenos Aires, February 3 (NA) – The Argentine Actors Association expressed solidarity with Leonardo Veterale, better known as “La Barby”, who was the victim of a homophobic attack after leaving the show where he works at Radio Pop alongside La Negra Vernaci.
On January 30, the actor was the victim of a violent attack after leaving the radio station. “We call on the State to guarantee the security, integrity, and rights of all people in a social context marked by hate speech and an alarming increase in violence and discrimination,” the statement continued.
“We stand in solidarity with La Barby and reaffirm our commitment to a more just, diverse, and inclusive society,” the Association concluded.
According to the account accessed by the Argentine News Agency, a man confronted him with homophobic insults and demanded food; upon the artist's refusal, the attacker physically assaulted him with a bottle while shouting attacks related to his sexual orientation.
The man was finally detained by the police guarding the area, and the conflict did not escalate further.
Hours later, La Barby spoke on LAM about the incident, describing it as the first hate attack he has received in his life, lamenting the events.
In recent hours, the Actors Association addressed the issue and condemned the attacks suffered by La Barby: “The Argentine Actors and Actresses Association energetically condemns the homophobic attack suffered by our member, actor Leonardo Javier Veterale, popularly known as La Barby, upon leaving his workplace.
“Violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity cannot and should not be normalized under any circumstances”.
“For decades, La Barby has been an emblematic figure in the fight for the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community, and his artistic career is an example of commitment and courage”.
